Herring move through the seas in schools – schools of hundreds to millions of individual fish who navigate conditions of scarcity and abundance together, unionize when in danger, transforming their plurality into one whole (having tricked the Swedish military into mistaking them for submarines over several years).

Cultivating a socialist mindset, they make decisions that are interlinked with the whole school and modify their behaviour on a second-to-second basis.

Questioning fishing dynamics in the North Sea after Brexit, Anastasia Eggers is looking towards collective behavioral patterns in herring schools and speculating on how we can learn from them.

The Maas, leading up to the Brienenoord island, opens up a new chapter of the research that follows the ghosts of herring, salmon, and the river fisheries in Rotterdam.

🫧 speculating on whether non-human knowledge can offer blueprints for new forms of collectivity, we will engage in a performative exercise

🥡 followed by a dinner questioning our (fish) eating habits and the practices connected to them

🌊 accompanied by a screening of Brexit Herring
